Godawaya Shipwrck

The Godawaya shipwreck is the oldest wreck site in Sri Lanka, so far it is the oldest in Asian Pacific region. Previous research done at this site proves the site is 2100 years old. Hull of the wooden wreck, hundreds of potshards (cargo of the vessel) around that and other artifacts belongs to the wreck can be seen at the site. This is a unique and one of the oldest underwater archaeological sites in the world which contains valuable archaeological information of that era and Indian Ocean trade.   The site need a detailed documentation and to be protected well from looting and from other human impacts.
