Roman Shipwrecks in the Mediterranean

Carlos de Juan and Filipe Castro

Introduction

This section of the nautical library is the result of an ongoing work developed by Carlos de Juan in the context of his PhD dissertation.  With the help of maria Santos, we have developed a website (Ancient Shipwrecks) and an inventory of ships with hull remains in the Mediterranean, from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.

This is an ongoing study and we expect to publish Carlos de Juan taxonomy here.

The Shipwrecks

There are hundreds of published shipwrecks from the Roman period in the Mediterranean.  This section is intended as an inventory of the smaller group that has hull remains preserved.
